We’re just a few days into the high school lacrosse season, but already there have been some pretty significant results on the field.
Tuesday night, Lake Brantley’s girls team faced off against defending state champion Vero Beach. The Patriots fell 19-4 as Vero Beach made a huge statement: They are the team to beat in girls lacrosse after winning the state championship in each of the past three seasons. Vero Beach has also beaten Brantley six out of the last seven times, including a 18-6 win in last year’s state semifinal game.
Wednesday night, Winter Springs’ girls team defeated Winter Park 16-3 behind Kenna Wick’s 5 goals. Also on Wednesday, Oviedo’s girls team blanked Melbourne Central Catholic 21-0 behind 5 goals from Ellyn Spagenberg.
Tonight, the Lions dropped a close game to Lake Mary, 8-6. Morgan Derner and Kaylee Quint each had 3 goals for the Rams.
Also coming in from tonight’s games, Will Rotatori had 5 goals and George Proechel added 4 goals for Lake Highland, as the Highlanders’ boys team beat a solid Winter Springs’ team 20-10. Matt Obermeyer had 4 goals for the Bears.
Lake Brantley downed Bishop Moore 11-3 tonight as well. Lake Brantley’s Jonathan Horbert scored 3 goals while Travis Wilcox scored 1 goal for the Hornets.
So far, Lake Brantley’s boys and girls team have shown that they are the top teams in the area while Lake Highland’s boys team and Lake Mary’s boys team have solid wins to their resumes already.
